Krystal entered into the public eye in 2021 as a political newcomer competing for Detroit's District 1 City Council seat, inspiring thousands of families with a message of hope, equity, and generational opportunities through workforce inclusion and economic justice.

Krystal was born and raised in Detroit and educated in Detroit public schools. She earned her criminal justice degree from Eastern Michigan University. She spent much of her career organizing safe play, interactive learning, and treatment-based activities within the juvenile justice system, the church, and Detroit Public Schools Community District. She set her career aside for several years to raise her family until entering politics in 2021 for the district 1 city council race.

In her spare time, Krystal leads organizing efforts in her neighborhood, knocking doors to connect neighbors and strengthen the community's social fabric. She also enjoys working out, dancing, and reading. Mostly, she loves camping and traveling the country with her husband, three daughters, and 3 dogs in their RV. Her daughters—known as the HerSheKissis—are straight-A students and cultural influencers, followed by over a quarter million users on IG and YouTube.
